Card Prices is building independent pricing infrastructure for the collectible card market. We partner with select contributors who bring genuine expertise in data engineering, machine learning, or the collectible card market. Quality of contribution matters more than hours committed or where they're committed from.
Much like contributing to an open-source project or developing a game mod — we're building a community tool because the existing options aren't good enough. This is a volunteer position. There is no compensation, no salary, no equity, and no set schedule. What we offer is meaningful work on real infrastructure that serves a real market — and the respect that comes with being trusted to do it well. As the company grows, so do the opportunities for those who helped build it.
We are deliberately selective. The right contributor brings domain knowledge, communicates proactively, and delivers work they're proud of. We don't measure hours — we measure impact.
We want to be straightforward: Card Prices has not sought outside funding as of the time of this writing. Our revenue plans are tied to future features that are still in development. While we plan to pursue grants and currently accept donations, those funds go directly toward infrastructure, data access, and promoting the tool to the community it serves. We are committed to keeping our market data free and accessible to everyone for as long as we are able to do so. The only circumstances where that changes are ones where the data itself becomes inaccessible or prohibitively expensive — and even then, we would turn to the community for support through donations before ever considering charging for data. If we can't provide pricing data that is reasonably accurate and genuinely serves the community, then we'd rather be honest about that than deliver something misleading. This is a ground-floor opportunity — not a guaranteed one.
- A chance to make a meaningful contribution to a community affected by market consolidation and increasingly opaque pricing — where tools that claim to aggregate sales data routinely display inaccurate numbers, and independent alternatives barely exist
- Your work ships to a live product used by real people — tangible portfolio material
- Experience with production ML pipelines, multi-source data infrastructure, and real-world engineering challenges
- Work directly alongside the founder in a fast-moving, technically demanding environment
- Letters of recommendation for contributors who demonstrate sustained excellence
- Contributions you can reference on your resume, grad school applications, or future career opportunities
- If Card Prices grows, the people who helped build it will be the first people we want to bring on
